Margarita de Champaña

I have saved this recipe for a day like this. And, for us and many Americans, this was an amazing day!

After 21 years together, we are even happier!

Champagne Margarita

Margarita de Champaña (Champagne Margarita)

The zest of 1 lime, finely grated

1 cup fresh lime juice

1 cup Cointreau

1 cup 100% agave silver tequila (I used Herradura)

Lime slice for moistening the glass rim

Coarse salt

1 bottle chilled brut Champagne or other sparkling white wine

Combine the lime zest, lime juice, Cointreau, and tequila in a small pitcher. Add some sugar or agave syrup if you’d like a sweeter drink. Cover and refrigerate to chill.

When chilled, strain the mixture to remove the lime zest. And reserve.

Moisten the Champagne glasses with the lime slice. In a small bowl, spread the salt and dip the moistened rims into the salt.

Fill each glass halfway with the margarita and slowly fill in the rest with Champagne or some sparkling wine.

Enjoy and celebrate!

NOTE: This recipe is from Rick Bayless’ cookbook, Fiesta at Rick’s, an amazing cookbook full of delicious recipes.   Check it out at your public library or buy it at your local bookstore when you get a chance.

  1. Definitely worth celebrating!! The celebratory feeling still hasn’t wore off; maybe it never will and this is the new normal! Congrats on 21 years!

  2. Sounds yummy and is similar to Humos Locos that substitutes mezcal for the tequila and uses Cointreau infused with jalapeño slices. ¡Salud y felicitaciones!
