BASICS: Tostaditas al Horno

With all of the exciting sporting events recently and the Super Bowl just around the corner, I thought I would share a simple way to make game-time snacking a little bit healthier.

I like to make my own chips, not just because they are cheaper, but because they taste better. The way I used to make them, though, was not very healthy. I came across this recipe that bakes the chips using oil on only one side. They turned out great! In fact, they are a bit crunchier than the fried version. Enjoy them with a good salsa or guacamole!


Tostaditas al Horno (Toasted Corn Tortilla Chips)

12 (6-7 inch) corn tortillas

¼ cup vegetable oil or cooking spray

Salt to taste

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.


Lay the tortillas on top of each other and cut them to the size you want.


Arrange the tortillas in a single layer on a large baking sheet and brush or spray with the oil on one side. Bake the tortillas on the middle rack for about 15 minutes or until they are crunchy and nicely browned.


Remove the chips from the oven and sprinkle with salt. Repeat the process until all of your tortilla chips have been toasted. When they are cool, you can serve them or store them in an airtight container for later use.
